After running workstation setup on a new computer which is connecting to Sage MAS 200, you receive the message "No Valid Servers Found".
Rules of thumb for MAS 200:
A. You must be able to ping the server from the workstation.
B. You must be able to ping the workstation FROM THE SERVER (applies to v3.xx - no longer a requirement for 4.xx).
C. Note that in items A & B, I did not say that you "think you can" -- I strongly urge you to physically perform those steps no matter how positive you are that both computers can ping each other. Virtually all causes of this error message are related to item A or B above.
Further Diagnostic Information:
1. You have not specified the correct server name (attempt to ping it to test it). Search the LOCAL hard disk for the SOTA.INI file. Open sota.ini in notepad and check to be sure only one server name is listed - and the name is correct. If in doubt about the SOTA.INI, rename it to SOA.OLD and re-run workstation setup.
2. You have not specified the correct port # (If you don't know what the port is check the SOTA.INI on an existing workstation -- the port ID is listed after the server name in the server config section)
3. You have a Windows firewall blocking connects from the server to the workstation. The server must be able to connect to the workstation. Test this by going to the server and attempting to ping the workstation.
The vast majority of persistent "no valid servers" errors are the result of failing to fully check one of the steps above. Do not assume that the workstation can ping or be pinged successfully without actually testing it.
