World's Most Valuable
Sage MAS 90 and
Sage MAS 200 ERP
Tips and Advice

Thursday, July 05, 2007

Glastonbury, CT

My name's Wayne Schulz and I've been working with Sage MAS 90 since 1986. My earliest experience with Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 was as a CPA where I'd do the taxes for clients and answer their technical support questions.

Fast forward to now.

My firm supports 100+ Sage MAS 90 and 200 clients in locations as far away as Alaska, California, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Michigan, Oregon, Massachusetts, New York and Vermont.

My Sage MAS 90 email newsletter circulates to 2,300+ users twice monthly (on the 1st and 15th of each month).  A large percentage of those subscribers are CPA firms and other resellers who use our material to keep up-to-date on Sage MAS 90 and 200.

We provide advanced support for both Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200.

Not only do we sell new systems but we also provide on-site and remote troubleshooting.

Quickly I learned that to provide exceptional support , I had to focus on one product. Trying to be all things to all clients didn't leave anyone happy.

Fast forward to the year 2006. Things got desperate for many consultants. After the Year 2000 scare passed and new product sales slowed - they started using more aggressive tactics to sell accounting software. Tactics that didn't allow for any time to consider whether the solution they proposed was the right solution for the client.

We get tons of support calls about Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 Accounting Software from people who are not our clients and never will be.

Easily half of those calls are terminal cases.

People who can't be helped. Not by me. Not by my local competitor. Not by one of the national guys with four webmasters to troll the web for discount business. Not by one of the two dozen desperados frantically buying exorbitantly priced Google Adwords to attract paying clients to their dying practice.

The reason that half those companies can't be helped is they didn't ask the right questions of the right consultant when they bought the software. The software SALESMAN had no accounting experience and didn't focus on making sure the software fit the company.

These callers fall into one of two categories. They've either been burned by bad advice or want to eliminate support costs by dialing anyone with an 800 number in the hopes of getting free answers to "quick questions".

Wayne's Wisdom #1
: There's a difference between a consultant and a salesman. One is paid to make things work. The other is paid regardless of whether it works.

Since 1986 we've focused our entire energy on Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200. We don't promote other accounting products and we are not affiliated with any CPA firm that might try to up sell you to an Audit ,Accounting ,Tax or Management consulting engagement.

Wayne's Wisdom #2
: If they don't have references for the solution, then you are paying them to be a beta tester.

So why is this page here? It's simple -- I believe end users who know where to research Sage MAS 90 questions can save themselves significant money.

Fast Answers To Problems Like..

Error 47, Error 11, One User Limit Exceeded, No valid Activation.....and share experiences with other users on topics like "How is the new version", "Should we upgrade?","Are there hidden tricks that make the upgrade smoother". Sage MAS 90 and  MAS 200 Support Without Tears (tips to resolving issues quickly).

Tip: If you've come here searching for the cure to the No Valid Activation - check your user rights. This message usually comes up when a new users does not have sufficient NETWORK rights to the /MAS90 folder and all subfolders.

These error messages can be researched online for free.

So what I'm going to do here is not attempt to sell you on our brilliance or convince you to spend a dime on our professional services. Instead I've outlined the five most important technical support resources that are available to the average MAS90 or MAS200 user.

At this point I hope you're asking yourself why I'd reveal this information for free and not try to convince you to call me.

Simply put I've found those companies who don't want to pay are never going to hire a consultant. Period.

And it's a drain on our resources to field all the support calls and explain our fee structure to personally solve their problem. All because the caller doesn't understand where to look. We then find a tiny portion of people who thought they'd perform the maintenance themselves will ultimately change their minds. Those people remember our site and sometimes become our most loyal and attentive clients.

Wayne's Wisdom #3
: If you're not eagerly paying your annual Sage Software Basic Maintenance - why not?! It's your secret key to obtaining all the free Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 support you need.

Almost all of these Sage MAS 90 support tips require that you maintain a valid Basic Software Maintenance agreement with Sage Software.  (Read about the details of this maintenance agreement). This annual plan provides not only your software upgrades for Sage MAS 90 and MAS 200 but access to all of this support information below.

Before performing any Sage MAS 90 file analysis and repair, ensure that you have a complete backup. You might also want to take a look at our list of links that we've compiled for our Sage MAS 90 User Group. And never install a program patch or service pack without speaking first to your authorized Sage Business Partner.

Wayne's Wisdom #4
: Just because the question can be asked quickly, doesn't mean the answer will be. Free advice is worth what you pay for it.
